Amanda Milone can be your media mentor.  She has been a Media Specialist for the past 12 years, mainly focusing on television production. After graduating from Brooklyn College with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism, she joined the prestigious Page Program at CBS Corporation. This led to an early promotion in her news production career.

She began her experience at CBS at the news desk, where she answered phones, booked travel for Producers and guests, and pulled elements for on-air stories that were covered.  As she expanded her experience, she landed a job in the video department. This task included the approval of all news pieces before going to air, cutting video and sound bites with an Editor and taking in feeds from the affiliate stations.

Advancement came in the role of a bigger opportunity in the graphics department, where she managed a team of 10 people. Amanda approved all graphics before they went to air, while ensuring they were completed in a timely manner. During this time that she was advancing in her broadcasting career, she also took on a few minor acting/modeling roles to gain experience in front of the camera.

Amanda wanted to make a career adjustment and broaden her horizons, but decided to stay in the media industry. Currently, she works for a multinational communications, advertising, public relations, technology and commerce holding company.  In this position, she began her development in the finance department and worked her way up into another role in the legal department.

SOME IDEAS FROM YOUR MEDIA MENTOR, AMANDA

GREETINGS –

A broadcaster at a news desk with a blue background and the words “Are You Considering A Broadcasting Career? - Talk to our Mentor”Learn The Right Steps

One huge benefit of working in the media industry is the vast amount of knowledge that you will receive in several other aspects of life. This is especially true if you're producing stories for live television.  The reasons are:

  1. You appear to be a strong candidate for any future job you explore because you are used to working in high pressure and stressful environments, and
  2. As you produce a story on a particular topic, such as finance, you are now learning more about that area of finance. Your increased knowledge on subjects such as this makes you more attractive to potential media outlets.

Another factor that makes the media industry so appealing is the people. It is built upon the diversity and quality of people, which creates a motivating, fun and creative culture. Working in the advertising area of media opens up the door even further to explore creativity and originality. The media industry is extremely broad so you won't be limited on career choices.
