QUOTES/JOKES

*****

1. Why was the sapling such a horrible entrepreneur?

Because he couldn't branch out.

2. Successful entrepreneur I met an old friend from high school the other day, and I couldn't believe how wealthy he had become. He ran a massively successful business, but could barely get a passing grade in math class when I knew him.

I asked him how he did it.

He said it was easy.

"All I did was find a product I could make for $2 and sell for $4. You'd be surprised just how much 2% adds up over the years!"

3. TIL is the creator of Corn Pops also invented Cocoa Puffs, Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, and Apple Jacks.

His tombstone just says "cereal entrepreneur"

9 Free Courses To Take On The Weekend To Be Smarter By Monday

The ladder.com has developed a great list of resources to help job seekers achieve their goals. Christy Burton describes nine (9) free courses that are available on video. Each addresses a different aspect of your job search.

I want to highlight two (2) of them.

1. The Career Force - Jen Hood has developed videos that focus on data and analytical careers. But she expands the discussion to address what a healthcare analysis does and whether a data analyst can become a business analyst. I feel that even if these aren’t your topics, you could pick up some great tips.

2. Andrew LaCivita - Andrew’s impact is wide spread as the article author picked him to demonstrate the way he answers questions that his viewers have. So he is meeting the demand by providing answers. He may talk about ways to decrease your nerves in an interview. His step-by-step approach is very helpful.

Check the other seven (7) videos also right below.

CAREER CHANGE NEWS

3 Steps To A Successful Career Transition

Amy Shepard, CFP wrote this article in thestreet.com. She wanted to present the steps that she took to make her own career shift.

After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, she found a role with a company that matched her desires. It was a startup that had passionate employee and opportunities to grow and learn. She enjoyed what she did every day. Then things changed.

Due to an acquisition, that company has shut dow and her role changed. So she started looking for something new. She describes the three steps she took in this way.

  1. The lottery question - She asked “If I won the lottery and money was no object, what would I want to do for “work”?” That led her to understand more about herself in a work environment.
  2. Two steps forward - An executive leader said “Don’t think about where you want to go next. Instead, think about where you want to be tow steps from now. If you can figure that out, then you’ll know what the next step should be to help you get there.”
  3. Values - Learn what you are not willing to give up and what you need to have, personal and work related. What is important to you?
These steps drove her to her fulfilling role. I hope they can help you too.
